The Foreign Ministry of Russia sees no “contraindications” concerning the joining of the US to the Normandy Format as RIA News reported citing Acting Director of the Third European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Oleg Krasnitskiy.

According to the official, the issue of involvement of the US in the Normandy Format is constantly raised.

“In principle, there are no contraindications for the involvement of the US as it really influences Ukraine and a lot depends on Washington’s position in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. In principle, if the US is really ready to make its contribution, we have been always open for America to influence Kyiv,” he added.

Earlier, the heads of state and government of the United States, Germany, France, Italy, and Great Britain proposed to resume negotiations in the "Normandy format" to resolve the conflict in Donbas.

As is known, the negotiations between the Russian and American leaders took place on December 7. The talks took two hours, with the agenda including bilateral relations, strategic stability as well as the situation in Ukraine and the NATO expansion.

The President's Office has already commented on the talks between the two presidents. According to Mykhailo Podoliak, an Adviser to the Chair of the President's Office, Ukraine supports US President Joseph Biden's call on Russian President Vladimir Putin to return to diplomatic instruments and ensure de-escalation in the region.
