Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is convinced that the Minsk agreements have no alternative in resolving the situation in Donbas. He stated this in an interview with the Croatian newspaper Večernji list on October 27, 2020, Russia’s Foreign Ministry reports.
"As for the situation in eastern Ukraine, there is already an unalterable basis for a peaceful settlement – ‘Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements’ agreed in February 2015. This document was approved by UN Security Council Resolution 2202 and thus became part of international law," Lavrov stated.
According to the official, now it is simply necessary to fully implement what the parties agreed on more than five years ago during a long diplomatic marathon.
As we reported earlier, Vice Prime Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Oleksiy Reznikov believes that Ukraine's unilateral refusal of the Minsk agreements is comparable to "suicide",
"To refuse Minsk unilaterally is suicide. Because there are political and diplomatic agreements between four countries: Germany, France, Ukraine, and Russia," he said.
