Russia will take retaliatory measures in case of the US withdrawing from the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF Treaty). This was stated by the chairman of the committee of Russian Federation Council for Defense and Security Viktor Ozerov, reports RIA Novosti.
"If the withdrawal from the treaty occurs and entails the increasing of armaments, the new deployment of missiles in Europe, we will not just watching it, we will take retaliatory measures," he said.
According to Ozerov, Washington has no reason to blame Russia for failing to implement the INF Treaty. "Russia has fulfilled all its obligations to destroy medium and short-range missiles, they were destroyed under the control of the American side, and Russia destroyed a thousand more missiles than the United States," he said.
Ozerov believes that the proposal of the US Congress to withdraw from the Treaty can only be regarded as "an attempt to continue the anti-Russian hysteria."
As Politico reported earlier, referring to a number of congressmen, the US administration evaluates the proposal from the congress on the withdrawal of the country from the treaty.
