The Russian Federation is preparing the responsive measures in reply to the American sanctions, introduced in December 2016. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that on air of one of the Russian TV channels, Interfax-Ukraine reported.
“Responsive measures are being prepared. As you understand, this issue won’t be solved in the Foreign Ministry only. (These measures, - ed.) will have a significant elaboration basis, and they are perfectly aware of that, we told them many times about that,” – Zakharova noted.
Zakharova also reminded that the new U.S. administration promised Russian side to provide “their groundwork on key, focal issues” before the meeting of the heads of foreign-policy establishments of the Russian Federation and the U.S.A. – Sergey Ryabkov and Thomas Shannon on July 23.
“One of these issues, the biggest issue on this level, is the Russian property under arrest on the territory of the USA. We agreed to provide the groundwork to put the basics for the work of the two sides during this meeting, planned to be held in Saint Petersburg. Nothing of that has been done, plus the whole package of sanction things. All that left no other options as to adjourn,” she said.
As it was reported earlier, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced new sanctions against Russia because of the series of cyber attacks aiming to change the course of U.S. presidential race.
Besides, 35 Russian diplomats were thrown out of Washington and San Francisco – a move, which President Barack Obama called ‘a necessary and an adequate reply to Russia’s actions’. The U.S. leader also called the Russian diplomats ‘scouts’.
The U.S. authorities closed two Russian diplomatic missions in Maryland and New York, which were allegedly used for purposes of reconnaissance. Russian diplomats will have no access to these missions staring from Friday noon.
Russian President Vladimir Putin decided not to expel US diplomats from the country, “not lower ourselves to the level of "kitchen", irresponsible diplomacy and further steps towards the restoration of Russian-American relations will be taken on the basis of the policy, carried out by the administration of President Donald Trump”.
On June 20, the United States of America expanded the sanctions against Russia due to the situation in Ukraine, adding 38 private persons and organizations to the exiusting sanctions list.
