“More than 1,000 soldiers and 50 aircraft of long-range, task, attack aircraft, including early warning and control aircraft A-50, supersonic strike bomber Tu-22M3 and 10 vessels of the Russian Black Sea Fleet will participate in the drills,” Astafiev noted.
He added that at the first stage the squadron of the task force will relocate from Rostov Oblast to annexed Crimea where it will hold the drills with the division of air-defense forces and ships of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet during a week.
“The pilots should hit the shields-targets placed in the sea and real cruise missiles of the coastal defence missile system of the Black Sea Fleet. Moreover, the aircrew of the airborne formations will work out the difficult element of the in-flight refuelling mission and will hold the air fight with the air grouping of the supposed enemy numbered up to 30 aircrafts within the drills,” Astafiev added.
On September 11-17, the large-scale drills “Vostok 2018” took place in Russia. It was reported that 300,000 soldiers, more than 1,000 airplanes, helicopters and drones, up to 36,000 tanks, armoured personnel carriers and other hardware, up to 80 vessels were attracted to the maneuvers.
