Vice Prime Minister, First Deputy Head of Ukraine’s Delegation at the Trilateral Contact Group Oleksiy Reznikov believes that Russia needs Crimea for presence in the Black Sea and Donbas to keep Crimea as Novosti Donbassa reported.

“The things happening in Donbas cannot get under the matrix of the Russian Federation. It will not keep it; it will be a temporary phenomenon. Actually, Russia understands it intuitively; it will not take it. Crimea is aboveground aircraft carrier, which is strategically important for the presence in the Black Sea, we understand it. Donbas is a temporarily played card by Russia, first of all, to keep Crimea,” Reznikov said.

He predicts that Ukraine will return Donbas faster than Crimea. The Crimean peninsula will be returned to the composition of the Ukrainian state - all in good time, Reznikov said.

According to him, Ukraine will deal with the issues of the return of these territories in parallel.

Earlier, Reznikov stated that Ukraine is not going to restore water supply to the temporarily occupied Crimea until it is de-occupied.
