The Russian Federation intends to form a new airborne assault regiment in the temporarily occupied Crimea. It will appear on the peninsula before December 1. This was announced by the commander of the Russian Airborne Forces Andrei Serdyukov, reports TASS.
"The decree of the President of the Russian Federation on the formation of the regiment has been signed, there is an executive directive of the Chief of the General Staff. In accordance with it, the regiment in Crimea will be formed by December of this year," Serdyukov said.
According to him, the new military unit will be part of the 7th Airborne Assault Division (Novorossiysk).
In early August, Minister for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Oleksiy Reznikov announced that Russia intends to deploy nuclear weapons in the occupied Crimea.
Earlier, as part of a military parade dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, military aircraft flew over Kyiv. It included planes and helicopters from NATO member states. The parade was broadcast by Pershiy Nezalezhniy TV channel.
Among the planes of other countries in the sky over the capital were seen:
- Polish multipurpose fighters F-16;
- Slovak UH60 Black Hawk helicopters and C-27 Spartan transport aircraft;
- British Eurofighter Typhoon fighters.
