As the scheduled maintenance works at Nord Stream pipeline began, the object is temporarily shut down. Because of that, Russia increased the volumes of the transit of gas via Ukraine's gas transportation system - to 300 million cubic meters. The press service of Ukrtransgaz company told that to 112 Ukraine news agency.
In the first half of July, the average volume of Russian gas transit through the Ukrainian gas transport system made 252 million cubic meters; in May, for instance, the number made 253 million. Thus, currently, the Russian side increased the volume of gas transit via Ukraine by ten percent.
Ukrtransgaz confirmed that the Nord Stream pipeline, which runs over the bottom of the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany, 'has completely stopped for scheduled preventative repair works by the end of the month'.
The half of the pipeline, which provides the EU with 170 million cubic meters of gas per 24 hours, coincided with the trilateral gas talks between Ukraine, Russia and the European Commission.
Recently, during the gas negotiations in Berlin, both Ukrainian and Russian delegations recognized the need of new kinds of contracts for gas transit. Maroš Šefčovič, the European Energy Union's Vice President told that to reporters as quoted by Interfax news agency.
'The Ukrainian and Russian sides agreed, that new sorts of contracts are necessary', he said.
According to Šefčovič, the documents will have to meet the standards of the European law.
