Russia aimed to make Macedonia give up Euro-Atlantic integration and fall under Russian influence

Staff of Russian of Chief Intelligence Directorate, with the help of their embassies, intervened in the internal affairs of Macedonia and other Balkan states in order to prevent the countries to establish closer ties with NATO. This is stated in the journalistic investigation of the international association, reports zn.ua.

Journalists received documents from the government of Macedonia, which have just come out of a significant political crisis. According to the investigation, Moscow pursued the goal that Macedonia would abandon the Euro-Atlantic integration and fall under Russian influence.

The investigation says that Macedonia is facing the activities of Russian intelligence services, carried out through the country's embassy for the past 9 years. In addition, Russia was assisted by Serbia, and also this activity extends not only to Macedonia, but also to other Balkan countries.

Earlier it was reported that Russia attempted to hinder Montenegro to join NATO. Russian Intelligence service supported opposition of Montenegro.
