The political prisoner from Crimea Olexandr Kolchenko was banned from continuing of his education at the Tavrida National Vernadsky University at geography department remotely. The First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament and the representative of Ukraine in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk Iryna Gerashchneko reported this at Facebook.

‘There is the only student among the political prisoners of Kremlin and it is Olexandr Kolchenko, the Ukrainian student of the geography department of the Tavrida National Vernadsky University. Despite the fact that the Russian legislation allows the remote and extramural forms of the education, Olexandr was banned from his fundamental rights for education. It was explained that the Tavrida National University does not have accreditation in Russia. We had a meeting with the principal of the Tavrida National University Mr. Kazarin and he is indignant that this guy has no right to learn, while the occupants took away his small motherland Crimea and who was detained under the preposterous charges in Russia. And any Russian university with accreditation will never accept the political prisoner as the student of the remote learning and it is obvious’, Gerashchneko said.

She appealed to the Ukrainian students’ organizations with a request to report to the international unions that Kremlin steals the young Ukrainians, secretly bring them to its prisons and leaves them without rights for medicine and education, particularly to call the name of Olexandr Kolchenko.

Gerashchneko claimed that she prepares the appeal to the Ukrainian ombudsman Valeriya Lutkovska with a request to react on the violation of the human rights. Also, she will appeal to the OSCE and the Ministry of Education with a request to allocate personalized scholarship to Olexandr and it can become an important support for his family.

‘Tavrida National Vernadsky University will continue its struggle for the student and the future geographer. We negotiated about this with the principal’, Gerashchneko summarized.

The North-Caucasian District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Kolchenko for 10 years of imprisonment in August 2015. He was accused of preparation of the terrorist actions in Crimea.
