The Russian Federation is open to dialogue with the United States to create a security zone in Syria, but considers that any such plan must be agreed with the Syrian government. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, reports Radio Liberty.
According to him, he briefly talked about it with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, when they met in Germany last week, but Tillerson said that the concept of the creation of such safe zones is still in the development stage.
Lavrov stressed that Russia will await for the presentation of US proposals. "But any such initiative on Syria, should be agreed with the Syrian government, otherwise it would be difficult to implement this," he stressed.
Let us remind, President Donald Trump said in January that he aims to create a special zone where the Syrians fleeing the war, may live, and not flee the country to become refugees in the United States or Europe. Trump instructed the relevant US agencies to work out the details of the plan.
