Russia demands from Google to stop advertising rallies on YouTube

The Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media states it would regard advertising as interference in the sovereign affairs of the state

The Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) sent a letter to Google demanding not to allow advertising of unauthorized mass events on YouTube. This was reported on the website of the department.

Roskomnadzor explained that a number of structures that have their own channels "acquire advertising tools from YouTube," for example, push notifications, "in order to disseminate information" about illegal actions. The users who are not subscribed to the channels of these structures also received such notifications.

If Google does not take action, this will be regarded as interference in the sovereign affairs of the state, and Russia reserves the right to an adequate reaction.

According to TASS, Andrei Klimov, deputy head of the Federation Council’s committee on international affairs and chairman of the interim commission to protect state sovereignty and prevent interference in Russia's internal affairs, said that “foreign opponents used the capabilities of information and computer technologies,” including YouTube, to actual manipulation by Russian citizens who came to Sakharov Avenue.

As reported, yesterday in Moscow on Sakharov Avenue, an agreed rally for free elections and the release of defendants in the "mass riots" case was held. Solidarity actions also took place in other Russian cities - St. Petersburg, Bryansk, Rostov-on-Don.

As reported earlier, over Saturday, August 3, security officials detained 828 people in Moscow. They protested against the refusal to register opposition candidates for elections to the Moscow City Duma.
