Russia, China and Iran will interfere in the upcoming presidential elections in the United States of America. US intelligence is concerned about the current and potential activities of these countries. This was stated by the Director of the US National Center for Counterintelligence and Security William Evanina, reports AP.
According to American intelligence, China wants the "unpredictable" Donald Trump to lose the election, Russia is trying to blacken Democrat Joe Biden, and Iran is seeking to undermine democratic institutions.
Evanina also voiced the latest assessment of the American intelligence services regarding the threats to the upcoming presidential elections.
"Many foreign players have a preference for who wins the elections, which they express through a series of open and private statements; attempts to secretly influence elections are less common. We are primarily concerned about the current and potential activities of China, Russia and Iran," the director of American intelligence said.
The US presidential elections are scheduled for November 3. Top candidates are Donald Trump and former US Vice President Joe Biden.
Senators of the Congress have approved their version of the national defense budget for fiscal year 2021, which kicks off on October 1. In this particular version, strategic competitiveness with Russia is of priority importance.
