Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the decision of the Czech authorities to expel 18 diplomats from the country a "trick" and promised a response from Moscow, RBC reports.

"Prague is well aware what follows such ‘tricks’," she said.

Czech First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Jan Hamacek, who is also Acting Foreign Minister, said at news conference earlier that the Czech Republic was expelling 18 employees of the Russian embassy, who are Russian intelligence officers in the Czech special services’ version.

Meanwhile, Ukraine expels a senior diplomat from the Russian embassy in Kyiv. He must leave Ukrainian territory within 72 hours starting from April 19. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The corresponding decision was made in connection with the expulsion of the Ukrainian consul in St. Petersburg, Oleksandr Sosonyuk.

"In response to this provocation, the senior diplomat of the Russian Embassy in Kyiv must leave the territory of Ukraine within 72 hours starting from April 19," the message says.
