Aerospace and military forces of the Russian Federation together with Turkish Air Force started their first joint air operation against "Islamic state" in Syria. This was reported by the "RIA News" agency.

It is planned to hit 36 ISIS objects in total during the operation. According to the head of the General Staff of the Russian Air Force Lieutenant General Sergey Rudskiy, the first results of a joint operation against ISIS have shown high efficiency of joint actions of the Russian and Turkish aircraft.

At the end of December last year, Anadolu agency reported that Russia and Turkey have agreed on a ceasefire plan throughout the Syrian territory.

It should be noted that on September 30, 2015 the Federation Council gave its consent to the Russian President Vladimir Putin for the use of armed forces in Syria, supporting the current Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. According to the Syrian Human Rights Centre, more than 350 soldiers were killed only on the Syrian side. About 3,600 civilians became victims of the Russian air strikes in one year.
