Russia and France mutually expelled diplomats in December 2020. This is reported by the French Les Echos, citing sources.

According to sources, one of the officials of the economic service of the Russian embassy in Paris was caught spying, after which he was expelled from the country.

Russia responded by expelling one of the diplomats from the economic department of the French embassy in Moscow.

At the same time, neither Russia nor France officially announced the expulsion of diplomats.

In early February, Germany, Poland and Sweden expelled three Russian diplomats. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the decisions of the three European countries "unjustified and unfriendly actions".
