Podilsky district court of Kyiv declined the appeal of the defense team of Kyrylo Vyshynsky, the editor-in-chief of RIA Novosti news agency. The lawyers asked the jury to return the indictment, but the court refused, Ukrinform news agency reported.
'The Collegium of judges ruled to decline the appeal of the defense team, which asked to return the indictment', said Olena Pavlenko, the Chief Judge of the Collegium said.
The court granted the motion of prosecutors who insisted on extending the detention period for Vyshynsky. Thus, the inmate will remain behind the bars until May 24.
In turn, lawyer Andriy Damansky announced that the defense team challenges the Collegium, as the judges are biased against the defendants.
The next court hearing in Vyshynsky's case is appointed for April 4.
Kyrylo Vyshynsky was detained last year; he's charged with state treason and illegal storage of weaponry.
