Residents of Ukrainian village protest against fence on border with Romania

Residents of Dilove village (Zakarpattia region, westernmost Ukraine) have been opposing the construction of the fence on the border with Romania. The press office of the State Border Guard of Ukraine reported that on April, 2.

'Border Guards of Mukachevo unit began to construct the fence on the borderline, in the zone of responsibility of Dilove village sector. A group of young people, about 40 people, reached the site demanding to stop the construction. The men, most of whom are locals, tried to provoke the law enforcers', the press office said.

The protesters also shut down the Rakhiv-Mukachevo roadway.

Border Guards continue to mount the fence on the border with Romania, witnessing and reporting the actions of protesters.

The population of Dilove village is 3,505 people.

As we reported on November 25, 2018, Major of the Border Guard tried to detain the smugglers at the Ukrainian-Romanian border near Dilove, but the criminals hit the law enforcer by their car. The Major died in the hospital. Several people were arrested on suspicion of a crime.
