Republicans block appointment of candidates to U.S. State Department due to Nord Stream 2

Senators from the Republican Party Ted Cruz and Mike Lee have blocked the appointment of dozens of candidates for positions at the U.S. State Department to make the administration of President Biden to impose new sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline as The Hill reported.

The Republicans blocked the appointment of almost 30 candidates, including for six positions of the assistant secretary of State, and a few candidatures for the positions of ambassador.

"All of the senators in this chamber know precisely why these nominees have not moved forward, and the reason is because the Biden administration is currently engaged in open defiance of the United States Congress," Cruz said.

According to him, Russia will get billion dollars after the end of the construction of the pipeline and it can use it for malign efforts in Europe and throughout the world.

As we reported, a group of senators from the Republic Party demands from the administration of President Joe Biden to impose new sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, or, they will block approval of two candidates for leading positions at the U.S. Treasury Department.
