The regulation on the holding of the elections in Donbas was not submitted to the Verkhovna Rada yet as 112 Ukraine TV channel reported citing Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Dmytro Razumkov.
“As of today, any regulatory proposals from subjects of the legislative initiative were submitted to the Verkhovna Rada. I mean the regulation about the amendment of the regulation. If we talk about the elections in the territory of our state, conditions that were declared – it is a free will expression, free access, equal rights, elections according to the Ukrainian legislation. If we talk about the elections according to the Ukrainian legislation, the announcement of the elections in the territory of Ukraine should be made by the Verkhovna Rada not later than in 90 days before their beginning. As of today, this process has started,” Razumkov said.
According to him, any amendments to this regulation may threaten the election at the rest of Ukraine.
Moreover, the speaker stated he stands for holding of elections all over Ukraine if it is possible.
“If we understand that there is no such possibility, we need to declare it honestly and frankly to people who live there. If a slight possibility to hold the elections occurs in the territories determined by the Central Election Commission as those where it is impossible to hold elections, I believe, it is right to hold them there. Because it is the local authority within decentralization; it is necessary and it is right,” Razumkov added.
He noted that any elections cost people’s lives.
“If we understand that people who come to the elections, who hold campaign, who provide the election process are endangered; we need to adopt proper decisions that were made,” he added.
As we reported, the Central Election Commission (CEC) announced the start of the electoral campaign for the upcoming local elections - September 5.
