Vesti news agency made a rating of the most influential people in Ukraine in 2019. The undisputed leader is the president of the country - Volodymyr Zelensky. An unprecedented victory in the elections and success in the formation of the mono-majority in parliament played a big role in this.
“In addition to the traditional presidential set (influence on the vertical of governors, National Bank, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Security Service, army and vaguely outlined, but definitely a powerful apparatus machine of the Presidential Administration/Office), he received a parliamentary mono-majority of 249 people, completely his Cabinet of Ministers, in which he does not need to share responsibility and authority with coalition neighbors, plus nice bonuses like influencing the State Bureau of Investigations (previously a formally independent body is now completely subordinate to the president),” Vesti agency notes.
The second place went to George Soros - many experts call him the inspirer and implementer of neoliberal reforms in the economy, healthcare, and education. His influence on the current government was called the greatest.
“What is the reason for such a high, second place in Vesti rating? First of all, it is his extraordinary influence on the processes taking place in Ukraine through dozens of organizations he sponsors. Soros himself, by the way, does not deny de facto interference in the affairs of foreign states, explaining his activities (he calls himself a “philanthropist”) as protection of “universal values” which do not have “national jurisdiction,” the authors of the rating note.
The first of the parliamentary opposition politicians in the ranking is Viktor Medvedchuk, the Chairman of the Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life Party, on the 8th place. It is noted that the politician received from the government an “informal title” of the “Enemy No. 1.”
“Instead of the status of a negotiator, he received an informal title of the “Enemy No. 1”: now three TV channels belonging to his ally (112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK) are being attacked by the authorities, and the office of his organization Ukrainian Choice is demonstratively searched on the eve of negotiations in Normandy format,” it is noted.
In addition, the top 10 of the rating included oligarchs Viktor Pinchuk, Ihor Kolomoysky, Rinat Akhmetov, head of the President’s Office Andriy Bohdan and Interior Minister Arsen Avakov. The 5th President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the leader of the Fatherland Party Yulia Tymoshenko close the top 10 list.
It is noteworthy that Verkhovna Rada Speaker Dmytro Razumkov took the 12th place, and Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk is on the 15th place of the rating.
