A rally is taking place in the downtown Yerevan, where people demand resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Local radio station reported that on December 22.
The opposition Movement for Salvation of Fatherland announed the nationwide strike in Armenia.
Gegam Manukyan, the representative of ARFD party reported that 700 laywers joined the rally, supporting protesters.
Naira Zograbyan from the Prosperous Armenia party claimed that from now on, they would gather for public protest actions every day - until the head of the government resigns.
Representatives of Movement for Salvation of Fatherland, which includes 16 parties blame Pashinyan for the outcome of the recent Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, where Armenia suffered both territorial and human losses. The opposition figures also slam the government for their failure to cope with the war's aftermaths.
Opposition forces claim that Pashinyan should be replaced in favor of temporary Premier; they offer Vazgen Manukyan who previously served as Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Armenia in the early 1990s. The Movement for Salvation of Fatherland claims that if Manukyan is appointed, his government will be working throughout the year, and then the snap parliamentary elections are supposed to take place; Manukyan and his party will not be running.
Pashinyan describes these actions a revolt of the retired political figures. "The political elite deprived of the power in Armenia during the 2018 revolution is trying to get its revenge", the Prime Minister said.
