President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said that he expects to restore economic ties with Ukraine. He said this during a meeting with employees of the Lebedinsky Mining and Processing plant of the Belgorod region of Russia, RIA Novosti reports.

"I very much hope that this situation will come to an end, and this time it will end, God forbid, bloodlessly, in the course of democratic processes," Putin said.

The Russian president expressed his opinion, responding to a question from one of the metallurgists about how long the crisis in Ukraine will last. He believes that enmity or cooperation between the two nations depends largely on the people themselves: "How long will this (the crisis in relations with Ukraine - Ed.) continue? I do not know. It depends on the people who live there, how long they will tolerate this."

At the same time, he stressed that he expects the restoration of economic ties between Russia and Ukraine.

"We would like to restore cooperation in general, not all is lost there," Putin added.
