Russian leader Vladimir Putin praised the initiative of Ukrainian MP Viktor Medvedchuk to organize the interparliamentary dialogue in the Normandy format that would help solve the conflict in Donbas. RIA Novosti news agency reported that on December 20.
During the meeting with Russian leader, the Chairman of Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life party offered to involve parliaments of the Normandy Four member countries in the peace process in Ukraine.
"Good idea. I'll ask the Duma leadership so that they'd work on it, too", Putin said, adding he hoped that the response of Russian MPs would be nothing but positive.
In turn, Medvedchuk claimed he already agreed with parliamentarians of Germany and France on the meeting in the second half of January or early February.
"We previously agreed on meetings with parliamentarians of Germany and France in January. You know, we already set the interparty contact between United Russia and Opposition Platform - For Life parties. We've met. The delegation from the Russian side was chaired by Head of the government, Chairman of the United Russia party (Dmitriy Medvedev, - 112 International). We agreed on interparty cooperation... Everyone is interested in peaceful solution [of the conflict], and stoppage of military actions and living up to Minsk agreements", Medvedchuk said.
