Anatoly Antonov who previously held the post of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation was appointed Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States,. This was stated in the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, published on Presidential Administration website on August 21.
"By presidential decree, Anatoly Antonov was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States of America and Permanent Observer of the Russian Federation to the Organization of American States, concurrently," the message says.
Putin, by another decree, fired Sergei Kislyak from the post of the Russian Ambassador to the United States.
Anatoly Antonov held the post of deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry in 2016. From 2011 to 2016 he was Deputy Defense Minister of the Russian Federation. He has the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, which he was awarded in 2007.
As it was reported earlier Russia recalled its ambassador to US amid election investigation. Kislyak is one of the key figures in the investigation of case on Russia’s interference with American elections.
Kremlin has decided to recall Ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak who is a key person in case on interference of the Russian to the US elections of 2016.
