Putin passes Trump note with set of proposals on nuclear disarmament

Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, called the negotiations with U.S. President Donald Trump successful. He said it at the joint briefing after the meeting in Helsinki, broadcasted by 112 Ukraine.

“The talks with the U.S. President Mr. Trump were conducted in an honest and business-like atmosphere. I consider it rather successful and useful. We have discussed the current situation and prospects of the Russian-American relations, the key questions of the international agenda,” he said.

Putin stressed that the negotiations reflected the shared desire of the states to correct the negative situation in the bilateral relations, “to plan the next steps towards its rehabilitation, restoration of an appropriate level of trust and return to the cooperation on the previous level within all the questions representing mutual interests”.

“As major nuclear countries, we are bearing a special responsibility for the international security. I consider it important, and we have talked about it, to establish a dialogue on the issues of the strategic stability and non-proliferation of the mass destruction weapons. We have passed a note to our American colleagues with a number of proposals regarding this issue. We consider the further mutual work on the elaboration of the entire complex of political-military and disarmament agenda significant,” he said.

As it was reported earlier, the leaders of the states met in the president’s palace. Before the meeting, Putin stated that within the last couple of months he talked with his American colleague few times and now it is about time to discuss the bilateral relationship between the states and “the pain points” in the world.

Besides, Trump stated that they were going to discuss the questions of trade, commerce, military and those related to the nuclear capabilities. “Our states have opportunities to significantly improve our relations”.
