German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron will support the implementation of the proposal of the Chairman of the Political Council of the Opposition Platform - For Life Party, MP Viktor Medvedchuk, to create an inter-factional parliamentary association, Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue for Peace: Ukraine - Russia - Germany - France. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed this meaning during a meeting with Medvedchuk and State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, the Kremlin’s press service reports.
Putin said that Russia was always ready to support the idea of connecting parliamentarians from Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France to the Normandy format.
He recalled that some time ago they had already discussed this topic with Medvedchuk.
“Of course, if parliamentarians in Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France support what is being done at the level of the executive branch, it seems to me that this would be very good, and I very much hope that you will succeed in this, I also hope that with support of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, "Putin said.
“I know the mood of the French and German colleagues towards this work. The only thing I can wish you is a success,” the Russian president concluded, adding that “we, on our part, are always ready to join in.”
As we reported before, Ukrainian and Russian MPs met in Moscow as participants of the Normandy Four talks. The lawmakers of Ukrainian and Russian parliaments negotiated in the Russian capital on March 10.
The main goal of the meeting was the presentation of the "parliamentary dimension of the Normandy format", which is taking place within the initiative called "Interparliamentary dialogue for peace: Ukraine-Russia-Germany-France".
