The protests in Moscow were discussed during the negotiations of French President Emmanuel Macron and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, as Deutsche Welle reported.

“Russia signed a number of the international documents obliging to respect the freedom of speech, opinion, peaceful protest, guarantee citizens with the possibility to participate in the elections,” Macron stated.

Putin, in his turn, stated that he does not want the events similar to the “yellow vests” protests in Paris to take place in Russia. He called the protests in Moscow the violation of the law and underlined that all guilty should be prosecuted.

Macron considered the direct parallel between “yellow vests” protests in France and protest actions in Moscow due to the non-admission of the opposition candidates to the elections incorrect.

“Considering the “yellow vests,” mentioned by President Putin, they had a possibility to present their candidates at the recent elections to the European Parliament,” Macron countered.

The French President welcomed the return of the Russian delegation to the Council of Europe and reminded that France, as well as Russia, signed the number of the international documents obliging all members of the council to respect the freedom of speech, opinion, peaceful protest, guarantee citizens with the possibility to participate in the elections.
