Russia states the possibility of disrupting negotiations on security with the United States. This was announced by the Chairman of the Federation Council's Interim Commission on Information Policy and Cooperation with the Media Alexei Pushkov.
In his opinion, the call of American experts to the US authorities to publish a list of sanctions in case of Russia's invasion of Ukraine may play a "subversive role" during the Russian-American talks with the United States.
"The publication of the list of anti-Russian sanctions demanded by former US ambassadors to Moscow will play a subversive role in the negotiations on security guarantees," the statement said.
Earlier, a group of 24 former US national security officials and experts on Russia called on Washington to make public measures agreed upon in the event of a new Russian attack on Ukraine.
The statement was signed by several former US ambassadors, in particular ex-ambassadors to Ukraine Stephen Pifer and John Herbst, ex-ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul and Alexander Vershbow, as well as Daniel Fried, former US ambassador to Poland.
“We believe the United States should, in close consultation with its NATO allies and Ukraine, take immediate action to influence the Kremlin’s calculations of costs and benefits before the Russian leadership chooses to further military escalation,” the statement said.
