US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made a statement on the anniversary of the crash of the Ukrainian UIA plane in Iran. He accused Iran of covering up those responsible for the plane crash near Tehran. The text of the statement was published on the website of the US Department of State.
According to the secretary of state, an investigation by Iran showed that flight PS752 was shot down by two rockets fired by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), but the perpetrators have not yet been punished.
"Yet, a year later, members of the IRGC have yet to be held accountable for taking the lives of 176 innocent civilian passengers and crew onboard. Instead, throughout this prolonged investigation, the regime has continued to protect those in the IRGC who were responsible," the message reads.
Also, the head of the US State Department expressed condolences to everyone who continues to grieve their loss in the UIA plane crash.
As we reported earlier, on January 8, Boeing 737 of Ukraine's International Airlines (PS 752 flight) with 176 passengers aboard crashed in Tehran, not far from Imam Khomeini airport.
11 citizens of Ukraine died in the crash. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the passenger plane crash in the Iranian capital had left no survivors.
