The protest movement in Belarus unfurled last month, as the Central Election Committee released the official results of the presidential election. Protesters claimed the elections were rigged, and thus were unfair. The first rallies took place on the same day, August 9. Law enforcers apprehend common protesters and leaders of the opposition. The EU demands that the Belarusian government release the detainees and observe the right of citizens for peaceful rallies. At least five people passed away in clashes with the riot police.
