President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko believes that Russian aggression against Ukraine “awakened” NATO, as reported from Ukraine-NATO commission broadcasted by 112.UA Channel.
“Continuing Russian aggression forced NATO to be much more active. I may even say that NATO “awakened” and the Alliance found its second wind. Allies received yet another confirmation that it’s necessary to combine all of their forces for mutual security, increase investment into defence and their global presence. Here in Ukraine we noticed that,” he said.
As we reported earlier, NATO’s General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg is visiting Kyiv today.
On July 6 Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko signed the law that defines Ukraine’s access to NATO as one of the key factors of the state policy.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes the country will conform to NATO standards by 2020.
