Prosecutor’s Office opens case on NewsOne telecast with Russian channel

The attempt to commit the state treason by NewsOne is investigated

Prosecutor Generals’ Office of Ukraine (GPU) registered the criminal proceeding on an attempt to commit the state treason due to the plans of the Ukrainian TV channel NewsOne to hold telecast with the Russian TV channel as Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko reported on Facebook.

“Due to the intentions of NewsOne TV channel to hold the joint the telecast with the Russian sanctioned channel, GPU registered the proceeding on an attempt to commit the state by the provision of the information support of the subversive activity against Ukraine,” Lutsenko wrote.

He also reported about the summoning of the owner of the TV channel for the questioning and the arrest of assets of the channel.

“The implicated, from the owners up to the host, who provided the announcement, were summoned for the questioning. The submission to the court is prepared to arrest the assets,” Lutsenko wrote.

We Need to Talk telecast was the project initiated by NewsOne and Russia24 TV channels. The event was to be aired on Friday, July 12.

The management of NewsOne TV channel stated that there will be no We Need to Talk telethon with Russia24 channel. There were statements about arranging rallies near the TV channel's building. On late July 7, these statements were followed by threats to assail reporters and their families.
