Today, on November 23, the train passed the Crimean Bridge for the first time. The Presidential Representative of Ukraine in Autonomous Republic of Crimea calls such actions of the Russian Federation illegal, and the prosecutor's office stated about the opening of the criminal proceedings regarding the construction of the bridge.

"The Representative Office of the President of Ukraine in Autonomous Republic of Crimea stresses the unlawfulness of the launch of the railway connection between Russia and the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine  - Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, which took place today, on December 23, 2019," the press service of the Office stated on Facebook.

It is noted that the only way to get to the peninsula legally is to cross the checkpoint between Crimea and mainland Ukraine.

Any other means, which have not been agreed with the Ukrainian authorities, may be considered an administrative or criminal offence.

"There is a crime - the illegal transportation of persons across the state border - the carrier company that delivers people to Crimea will definitely be evaluated," Crimean Prosecutor Ihor Ponochev said in an interview with Krym.Realii.

He also said that the prosecutor's office had already opened a case regarding the construction of the bridge, as the environmental damage caused to the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov had been established.

As we reported earlier,  President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will travel to the occupied Crimea in order to personally take part in the opening of the railway movement on the Crimean Bridge.
