Voting on the so-called presidential election and referendum "about returning to historic name" takes place in unrecognized South Ossetia today. This was reported by TASS.

"All voting places opened in time at 8 a.m. and are ready to accept voters all around the republic, in Moscow, Vladikavkaz, Sukhumi," head of central electoral commission of South Ossetia informs.

Three candidates participate in the election: current "president" Leonid Tibilov, "chairman of parliament", leader of United Ossetia party — Anatoliy Bibilov, and KGB officer Alan Gagloyev.

According to CEC, 72 electoral districts are opened in South Ossetia, 5 more are placed outside the "republic": in Embassy buildings in Moscow and Sukhumi, 2 stations in Vladikavkaz and another one in Prigorodny region in North Ossetia.

More than 32 thousand voters were put on the lists in South Ossetia territory, 6.5 thousand ballots were sent for voting outside the republic. Voting will end at 8 p.m.

As it was reported earlier, EU-Georgia visa-free regime will also cover citizens of the occupied by Russia Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
