President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that he intends to cut the last knot connecting Ukraine with Russia - to make the Orthodox community independent from the Russian church. And before that the head of state said that the EU would not be a completed project without Ukraine. He said this during his speech on the occasion of Independence Day. The online broadcast of the military parade is conducted by 112.ua.
"The body can not be free when the soul is captive. Let Constantinople, Moscow, and the Vatican hear us today. We are determined to cut the last knot that the Empire desperately tries to tie us to it. We are determined to put an end to the unnatural and the uncanonical stay of a significant part of our Orthodox community, depending on the Russian church, which sanctifies Putin's hybrid war against Ukraine, "he said.
"Baptism came to us from the Church of Constantinople and it spread from Kyiv to wide areas of Eastern Europe. Ukrainian Christianity has more than a thousand years of history. When we restored and defended the state independence of Ukraine, there is no reason that among other local Orthodox churches there wasn't local Orthodox Church of Ukraine, equal to them" added Poroshenko.
Earlier we reported that Ukrainian military aviation participated on the parade for the 27th Anniversary of the Independence Day of Ukraine for the first time in nine years. Participation of 18 countries’ soldiers is another novelty. 112 Ukraine was broadcasting the parade for the Independence Day.
