President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko urged the world society to react on the Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia as it reacted on the poisoning of ex-GRU officer Sergey Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury as he reported on Facebook.
The president thanked the world society for the cohesion around the issue of the Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia.
"In my opinion, it is time not for the statements and speeches about the concern of our international partners but for the decisive actions in the respond similar to the large-scale and powerful reaction on the poisoning in Salisbury," he wrote.
On June 26, Council of Europe Secretary General Thurbjørn Jagland has officially filed for the pardon of Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov to Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, Kremlin responded that this letter cannot be a ground for the release of Sentsov.
As it was reported earlier, Ukrainian movie director Oleg Sentsov and Crimean activist Oleksandr Kolchenko were detained by the Russian FSB in the annexed Crimea. Both were taken to Russia. Sentsov was charged with preparing a terrorist act in Crimea and sentenced to 20 years in the high-security penal colony. Kolchenko was sentenced to ten-years-long imprisonment.
