Ukraine and NATO started a discussion as to the plan of actions for Ukraine to become a member of the Alliance, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko told in a joint brieding with Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, broadcasted by 112.UA Channel.
“We believe it's necessary to start discussing a Membership action plan, and our suggestion was readily accepted,” he said.
The Membership Action Plan (MAP) is a NATO programme of advice, assistance and practical support tailored to the individual needs of countries wishing to join the Alliance. It was launched in April 1999.
It should be noted, though, that Poroshenko emphasized Ukraine will not apply for membership immediately.
As we reported earlier, NATO’s General Secretary is visiting Kyiv.
