In the near future, Ukraine and Belarus will create a working group to improve the mutual trade between the countries. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko claimed this during the meeting with his Belarusian colleague, reports 112 Ukraine.
Poroshenko noted that Belarus is a strategic trade partner for Ukraine, namely the fifth largest trading partner in the world.
‘We achieved the $4.5 - $4.6 billion of goods' turnover this year. But does this suit me and Aleksander Grigoryevich (Lukashenko, - 112 International)? It definitely does not. We agreed on different numbers. The only thing that we can be satisfied with is the growth rate. If the annual growth makes 23 percent, it is more or less decent, we are reaching the number that we agreed on. We hope that the growth will make $5.3 billion this year, and more than $7 billion the next year. It should be $10 billion, we have every reason for that,’ Poroshenko claimed.
‘I am sure that we could have easily doubled our good turnover, and ten billion is absolutely realistic. The rebound in the export of the Ukrainian rolled metal products to the Republic of Belarus had a great impact on the growth. Also, we lifted the limits on agricultural products trade and timber trade,’ the leader of the Ukrainian State claimed.
Also, Poroshenko added that he and the leader of Belarus agreed on the urgent creation of the working group, in order to clear all anti-dumping restrictions, to clear any obstacles that interfere with the mutual trade.
‘This is our task. I predict that the group would be created in the near future,’ the Ukrainian President added.
The private meeting of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and President of Belarus Aleksander Lukashenko took place in Gomel.
