Poroshenko to discuss UN peacekeeping mission with Steinmeier

Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the President of Germany, are to discuss the deployment of UN peacekeepers in Donbas, as the President’s Administration reports.

Reportedly, Steinmeier pays an official visit to Ukraine on May 29-30, 2-18. He will meet with Petro Poroshenko. They will discuss the situation in Donbas and the question of bringing the UN peacekeeping mission in the occupied region.

Besides, the Heads of the states will discuss the wide range of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, the ways of German’s further support of Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier is to visit Lviv as well.

Earlier, at the meeting with Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany, Petro Poroshenko stated that the deployment of UK peacekeepers in Donbas is caused by the absence of the progress in the peace talks.

As we reported earlier, Poroshenko in his speech at the Munich Security Conference stated that Russia had a chance to show its readiness to the compromise and agree to the peacekeepers on the entire territory of the occupied Donbas. Earlier, Kurt Volker, the U.S. Ambassador to NATO, said that Russia’s draft resolution, which provides bringing the peacekeepers to Donbas only along the confrontation line is unacceptable for the USA and the UN, as it will not ensure security, but only exacerbate the conflict.

Earlier, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Turkey and Finland stated that they were ready to bring the peacekeepers to Donbas.
