Poroshenko signs law on prevention of illegal raids

The law eases the mechanism of bringing to justice an investigator, a prosecutor, a police officer who made the wrong decision during the investigation of a criminal case

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the law on the prevention of illegal raids that aim to seize property by the means of hired masked gunmen. He claimed this at the meeting with the representatives of Ukrainian business, as 112 Ukraine TV channel broadcasted the event.

'Law under the conventional name ‘Stop the masks show’ eases the mechanism of prosecution of an investigator, a prosecutor, a police officer who made a wrong decision during the investigation of a criminal case, which subsequently was canceled by the court. Basically, from now on, for the improper prosecution of business, they will hold personal responsibility, including the financial kind,’ the President said.

Reportedly, the Ukrainian parliament adopted a law on the observance of the rights of participants in criminal proceedings and other persons during the pre-trial investigation.

The draft law amends several articles of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, in terms of providing another person whose rights or legitimate interests are limited during the pre-trial investigation, or his representative the right to file petitions to the investigator. The prosecutor is to close the criminal proceedings if there is an unreasonable decision of the investigator or no criminal offense is detected.
