Poroshenko, Pompeo discuss Nord Stream 2, anti-Russian sanctions

Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine has claimed about the importance to maintain pressure on Russia to release all Ukrainian prisoners during the phone talk with Mike Pompeo, the U.S. Secretary of State as the press service of the president reported.

Poroshenko thanked the American side for the provision of the Javelin anti-tank missile complexes to Ukraine and also, the sides discussed the strengthening of the cooperation in the security and defense spheres.

The parties talked about the possible risks in the case of the Nord Stream 2 implementation and coordinated positions in the context of announced conclusions on downing of MH17 flight.

The issue was about the importance of the holding of the sanctions policy against Russia.

'The Head of State informed the Secretary about reforms implementation in Ukraine in the context of cooperation with the International Monetary Fund, in particular with regard to building efficient anti-corruption infrastructure', the message said.

Ukrainian president invited Pompeo to visit Ukraine.

Earlier US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo talked with Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the phone about Ukraine and improving relations between Russia and the United States.
