President Petro Poroshenko submitted the draft law about diplomatic service in Ukraine for consideration by the Parliament; the head of the state insists that the bill is considered urgently.

‘Approving this bill matters just as much as building the defense strategy, approving the Strategic Defense Bulletin and reforming the army. This is our army as well, only the fights take place on the foreign policy frontline; the diplomats are the ones who make it possible to hold the coalition in support of Ukraine, to continue the sanctions and to carry on with the reforming our country into a truly European state, the President said.

According to Poroshenko, the document will add to the prestige of diplomatic work in Ukraine; it will let upgrade the Ukrainian diplomatic system to the level of modern standards. The presidential press service also stated that the main goal of the draft law is to set the new legal and organization grounds of diplomatic service as a governmental agency with a special status.

As of Monday noon, the draft law has not appeared on the Parliament’s web site.
