President Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with ex-leaders of the Baltic Sea - Black Sea countries that will take part in the IV Baltic Sea - Black Sea Forum “Unanimous security of the countries of the Baltic Sea - Black Sea region as a consensus strategy for great Europe”. The forum is to take place on February 22-23 in Kyiv, as the press service of Ukraine’s President informed.
At the forum, Ukraine will be represented by Leonid Kravchuk, Leonid Kuchma and Viktor Yushchenko, Belarus - Stanislav Shushkevich, Bulgaria - Petar Stoyanov, Lithuania - Vytautas Landsbergis, Latvia - Valdis Zatlers, Moldova - Petru Lucinschi, Poland - Alexander Kwasniewski. Gennady Burbulis is to be the president of the forum.
In their meeting, the officials discussed the issue of regional and global security and noted the need to increase the effectiveness of security mechanisms in the world and in Europe, including those provided by the UN Charter and the OSCE program documents.
The security issues in the Baltic Sea - Black Sea region were also discussed, including the attempts to destabilize the situation in the countries of the region.
The President of Ukraine stressed that Russia's goal was not just Ukraine, but the region as a whole.
