The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko conducted meeting with the representative of “Opposition Bloc – For Life” Viktor Medvedchuk to discuss the process of the release of the Ukrainian political prisoners, as the President’s Administration reported.
“The President had a couple of meetings with Medvedchuk, where he expressed discontent as the process of the release of the Ukrainian political prisoners of the Kremlin, who are illegally kept in Russia and on the occupied territories, exclusively for the shift from the deadlock of this issue,” the message says.
As it was reported, since May 2014, Viktor Medvedchuk conducted negotiations with the representatives of the so-called Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics on finding the ways of a peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas. The agreement on the beginning of the dialogue between the Trilateral Contact Group (which includes the representatives of OSCE, Ukraine and Russia) and the so-called Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics was the result of the activity of the mediatory negotiation group. Two consulting rounds in such format took place on June 23, 24, 2014, which resulted in the agreement on ceasefire.
Viktor Medvedchuk stated that the negotiations on the exchange in an “all for all” format are being conducted all the time. In December, 2017, the largest exchange through the “306 for 74” formula took place.
Thanks to the participation of Viktor Medvedchuk, more than 480 Ukrainian citizens were released.
