President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat during which he congratulated him on his country's chairmanship of the EU Council in the first half of 2017. This was reported in the press-service of the President.
In particular, the parties discussed the key issues on the agenda of relations between Ukraine and the EU on a six-month term and coordinated approach to the strengthening of relations between Kyiv and Brussels. "Ukraine will continue to be among the key priorities of the European Union", the press-service reports.
They also discussed the steps necessary to complete all procedures by the EU to introduce visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens. Poroshenko and Muscat stressed the importance of the early entry into force of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
"Petro Poroshenko expressed gratitude for the firm position and strong EU support for the restoration of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, including the Crimea. The leaders of both countries also discussed steps to intensify economic co-operation, in particular in the field of agriculture and transport", reads the statement.
Prime Minister of Malta has invited the Ukrainian leader to visit the country at a mutually convenient time.
