Former governor of Odesa and ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has wrecked his own prospects in Ukraine and the procedure of his readmission was flawless, President Petro Poroshenko said in the press conference broadcasted by 112.ua today.
“Unfortunately, Mikheil has wrecked them (the prospects) himself, and I’m sorry about it. I don‘t think he is happy now. But it’s his problems and his affairs,” Poroshenko said.
He emphasized that the readmission of Saakashvili to Poland was operated without violations.
“The issue of readmission to Poland after the violation of the law committed by Saakashvili and his group of individuals while crossing the border, which has been confirmed by the court after a comprehensive study, the issue of readmission was conducted legally flawlessly from the point of view the Ukrainian legislation, and from the point of view of Ukraine’s commitments, and from the point of view of the rule of law,” Ukrainian President said.
As we reported earlier, Saakashvili was detained by the task force of the Border Guard Service in a restaurant in downtown Kyiv and sent to Poland.
On Sep. 22, 2017, the Mostysky court in Lviv found Saakashvili guilty of unlawfully crossing Ukraine’s border. In January 2018, the District administrative court of Kyiv refused Saakashvili’s appeal to the Migration service as to recognizing him a refugee. On Feb. 6, the court denied this claim again. This way, Saakashvili was readmitted to the country from which he had illegally come to Ukraine.
