Poroshenko gives state grants to political prisoners Balukh, Sentsov and Sushchenko

Also one-year grants would be provided to Umerov and Chiygoz

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on providing of state grants named after Levko Lukyanenko  to unlawfully detained in the Russian Federation political prisoners for the period of detention and for one year, the press service of the head of state reports.

"In accordance with the decree, state scholarships named after Levko Lukyanenko would be given for a period of unlawful detention, and within one year after the release of Volodymyr Balukh, Oleg Sentsov, Roman Sushchenko," the decree says.

In addition, grants for a period of one year provided to the vice-chairmen of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilma Umerov and Ahtem Chiygoz.

We recall that the number of political prisoners in Russia exceeded 230 people.

The report of the Washington-based law firm noted that opposition politicians and public activists, representatives of religious and national minorities, LGBT activists, as well as Ukrainian citizens and pro-Ukrainian activists, are victims of persecution by the Russian authorities.
Earlier Volodymyr Yelchenko, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, conveyed to Antonio Guterres the appeal of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people to the parliaments and governments of the UN on recognition of the Crimean Tatars genocide. This is reported by the Ukraine's Representaion in the UN on Twitter.

"The permanent representative V. Yelchenko conveyed to the UN Secretary General the appeal of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people to the parliaments and governments of the UN member states" On recognizing the genocide of Crimean Tatar people. "The appeal will be circulated as an official document of the General Assembly and the UN Security Council," the message says.
