Current President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko entered the second tour of the elections thanks to Oleksandr Vilkul, the candidate for the presidency as 112 Ukraine reported citing Viktor Medvedchuk, the Chairman of Opposition platform – For Life political party.
“The strategic task set for out candidate Yuriy Boyko was entering the second tour. We had the grounds for it; we had possibilities. Unfortunately, when the negotiations before the election campaign took place between the candidates, who could present the south-east of our country and the Russian-language population, we fulfilled that task uniting two top rating candidates for south-east: Rabinovych and Boyko. And we made a decision that Mr. Boyko will be the candidate. Unfortunately, one of the wings, which represented Opposition Block and now it is Opposition Block – Party of Peace did not agree due to its ambitions and their goal was to play into the hands of the authority, personally, Poroshenko, make deals to promote one candidate. The result received by Boyko, almost 11,7% and a little bit more than 4% of Vilkul, who united with Murayev, and presented that wing and to be precise, presented Mr. Poroshenko, so the result of our candidate would be the second place. And there will be Boyko, not Poroshenko,” he said.
“Of course, we should talk not only about the arithmetical addition but we should talk about principles of synergy. It would work positively. Because two teams, team of Boyko and team of Vilkul-Murayev and businessmen, appealed to each other. Moreover, they used dirty methods against us. On March 31, the letter was spread in the south-east with the urge on behalf of our leader Rabinovych with the request not to vote for Boyko. It was absolute nonsense, fake, but it is impossible to say that it did not work. It was a dirty method for receiving of the votes, which should be gained by Boyko. In the result, we see that the candidate supported by south-east did not enter the second tour as it was predicted by sociologists and experts but the current president. He should thank Vilkul and his team for it. It is the evaluation of the result of the second tour,” Medvedchuk added.
