Poroshenko discussed escalation in Donbas with Rex Tillerson

Ukrainian President held a telephone conversation with the US Secretary of State during his visit to Germany

President of Ukraine Petro Peroshenko had a phone call with Rex Tillerson, the current United States Secretary of State. This was reported on Facebook by Svyatoslav Tsegolko, the spokesman for Ukrainian Head of State.

"Ukrainian President held a telephone conversation with the US Secretary of State while in Germany at the 53rd Munich Security Conference," he wrote.

Poroshenko congratulated Rex Tillerson on his appointment and wished success in fulfilling responsible foreign-policy mission.

President of Ukraine informed US Secretary on recent escalation in Donbas and violation of Minsk agreement by the Russian Federation.

For his part, Tillerson informed on results of G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Bonn and stressed the importance of Minsk agreement implementation.

The discussion was about countering continuous Russian aggression, restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine with Crimea, including the effect of sanctions policy.

Petro Poroshenko and Rex Tillerson defined the number of issues demanding immediate attention on this stage of strengthening strategic partnership between Kyiv and Washington.

Ukrainian Head of State also invited US Secretary to visit Ukraine.
